I just purchased a home with a large, open kitchen and I would like to install a kitchen island. I've found a few online for approx $2000 and I'm wondering if an island built for my kitchen by a contractor would be less expensive.

I have a bathtub/shower combo with some cabinets directly abover it making for a very enclosed space that I would like to completely redo. I envision having the cabintes above the shower/tub gutted and then a new shower/tub with nice large tile and new faucet/shower fixtures and a couple of recessed lights placed in above the bathing space. Replace garden tub and sink-vanity with walk-in shower, 200 s.f. Travertine and 24 s.f. glass block. Water tower fixture. Replace old vanity with pedistal sink. Old Stand up shower needs to be demoed as well as garden tub and existing 32 s.f. of floor tile.

What is the ball park square footage price to finish with framing a bedroom, installing a bath and the rest as media room with bar? I realize this is general, but I want a general idea of costs. Add 8 foot by 21 foot extension to family room including dormer type roof over addition with sliding glass door on 8 foot wide wall and floor to ceiling windows on 21 foot wide wall. Slope of yard will result in additon being about 4.5 feet above ground. Exterior brick up to floor level with vinyl siding from floor level to roof.
